Basic guide to good nutrition

This is a food guide based on quality and benefit to health, not on convenience. The Mediterranean diet, one of the best traditional diets on the planet, gives an over 50% reduction in all-cause 10-year mortality in elderly people. There is no drug ever developed that has as much benefit to the health!

Over the past century, the SAD diet (Standard North American Diet) has degenerated from a farm food diet to a factory food diet, and the health of the general population has suffered greatly as a result. There are toxic fats, damaging amounts of sugar, and close to 3000 chemical additives, preservatives, artificial colourings and flavourings allowed in modern processed commercial foods! The harmful effects of these ‘foods’ more than outweigh any convenience they provide.

It is healthier and less expensive to make meals from simple, unprocessed ingredients. Unfortunately, doing so is also a lot less convenient. Making these changes takes not only commitment, but also a shift in priorities. The benefits are worth the effort…
